A new couch for that ass

( Photos and NOLA )

My last couch was given to me in the late 90’s by a friend of mine, and I recently donated it to another friend.
I’d been talking lately about getting a new couch, but I know it probably wouldn’t happen unless I got rid of the then current one. Well, it got picked up mid last […]

Monday Morning Thanks

( Geaux Saints! and Music and NOLA )

Two things to be thankful for this morning:
1) The Saint’s long-awaited 180 game last night.
2) The new Happy Talk Band album.
There was a point last night, where I stood up and yelled to the maybe 20 people in Vaughan’s last night, “Remember who isn’t here tonight when we go to the playoffs this year!”
Who dat.

So Long 8th Ward, Hello 6th!

( NOLA )

I’ve moved. For the most part - I still have some cleaning to look forward to and a coupla bikes left, but for all intents and purposes, I’ve moved.
Goodbye Marigny, it’s been fun. Howdy Treme, I look forward to getting to know you better.
So, in celebration of a new house, I would like to present […]

Complicated Life

( Music and NOLA and Cycling )

Clint asked me to put this up on the webternets, so without further ado, I give you “Complicated Life”. Please pass it along.

The Return of the Who Dat Insurgence

That’s right kids. Today is Game #1 of the 2007-2008 Football Season. Saints at Colts.
This morning, in the wee hours of oh-dark-thirty, a woman rode by where I sat on the levee. She looked like the typical bike nerd on the levee riding at that ungodly hour. Road bike, helmet, lycra team kit, Saints’ #9 […]

On the move

( NOLA )

At the end of the month, I will be moving out of the “temporary” apartment I moved into ~1.5 years ago. So long, the Marigny, hello the Treme.
I’ll be moving to Gov. Nicholls Street with my current roommate, the po-po. The house is a super-nice two story, newly renovated.
My friend Chris owns it - he […]

¡Viva ze Bool!

( Hashing and NOLA and Drunkery )

So a friend and skater, Archbishop Pummel and her boyfriend have started up something cool.
This July 7th (known this year as Maggiepalooza™), the first ever San Fermin in Nueva Orleans will take place at 8am in the French Quarter - the same day the original Spanish event will be taking place in Pamplona.
I’ll be running. […]

Kill da Wabbit

( Hashing and NOLA and Drunkery )

Tonight marked my first run (outside of last year’s Red Dress Run) with the NOLA chapter of the Hash House Harriers (a drinking club with a running problem). It was fun.
I went with Mikey (known as Tandy Ass™ in the hasher circles) in what was promising to be a very rainy run through City Park/Lakeview. […]

“Better slip with foot than tongue”

( NOLA and Drunkery and Cycling )

Ah, such true words, Mr. Franklin.
This past Sunday saw Bea, myself, and a group of friends playing croquet in City Park. We decided to throw in a twist or two: what can only be described as a vat of Long Island Iced Teas and two courts that intersected in the middle at a 90° angle.
I […]

The Phoenix Also Rises

( NOLA and English Lit. and Geekery )

So, a couple of new bits of goodness in the Harry Potterverse:
1) I have a press pass to Phoenix Rising: a conference devoted to all things Harry Potter, will fuse the intensity of academic debate with the improvisation of exploratory dialogue, the rhythms of New Orleans with the colors and pageantry of art. The conference […]
