I Heart British Transvestite Stand-Up Comedians

( NOLA and Amusing )

I read/heard the other day that Eddie Izzard was slated to come to town, and completely forgot about it until I got an email reminder this morning from Liz. So I got four - I’m taking Bea, and my Mom and Dad (for father’s day).
I got my tickets this morning from TicketBastard, and you can […]

Lake Hashertrain

( Hashing and NOLA and Drunkery )

Now that my knee has sufficiently healed, I’ve been very happy to be able to be hashing again, and I’ve been making a point to go on Mondays with NOH3. When this month (and my temporary re-instatement to Rollerderby Refdom) expires, I’ll be hashing with VooDooHHH.
Last night was much fun, and Mikey was able to […]

A Pedal in the Right Direction

( Photos and NOLA and Cycling )

The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins in 30 minutes, and I wanted to be there, but work has done.
Anyways, New Orleans has a bike lane! I had the opportunity to use it today - it runs down St. Claude Avenue (on both sides!), and is quite spacious. Hopefully as streets are repaired, more will be added where […]

Baptized in Beer

( Hashing and NOLA and Drunkery and Amusing )

Last night marked my grand return to hashing. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to do it lately - from the DST switch to Sunday afternoons/evenings, to the busted tailbone, to the busted knee.
It’s been a while.
Anyways, the hash started went a little something like this (errors included):

This translated to ~4.2 miles. Considering how long […]

The Faubourg Treme

( NOLA )

Ah, the Treme, my neighborhood. Just saw this as a bulletin on MySpace, I’ll just copy/paste here in case you might be interested:

The Faubourg Treme is one of the most historically significant neighborhoods in New Orleans, and learning more about it gives you a new appreciation for the city you love. I’m assuming that […]

18-1

Wow. A guy I used to play soccer with as a kid just won the MVP in the Superbowl.
For the record, I have a gripe with calling the Giants (or any team that wins the Superbowl) “World Champions”. There are no teams outside the U.S. in the NFL!

Cordial Invite to Ramble

( Music and NOLA )

You are cordially invited to join the St. Anthony Ramblers on Mardi Gras Day, the Fifth of February, 2008. Should you grace us with your presence as we walk the streets of the Neighborhoods Treme, French Quarter, and Faubourg Marigny, we shall revel together and spread much merriment with the music of Panorama Brass Band.

The Incomparable Mr. Maedgen

( the telly and Music and NOLA )

Well, it’s safe to say that last night, I had by far the safest house in the Treme / 1st District. I had about 8 on-duty cops in my living room, watching the LSU game.
Clint came by my house this morning because I had recorded his performance onto my computer. I gave him a nice, […]

Jose, can you see?

( the telly and Music and NOLA )

Tonight, my good friend Clint Maedgen of Liquidrone, The New Orleans Bingo! Show, and guest singer for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (for three years now) will be singing the National Anthem for the BCS Championship game tonight with the aforementioned jazz band.
The game will air at 6:30PM Central time on FOX - so please […]

Knock, Knock. Who’s There?

( Photos and NOLA )

One thing I picked up in NC (besides yer moms (sorry, had to)) that I do really like was this:

There is no doorbell here, and I was thinking that next hardware store trip, I’d pick up one of them fancy wireless doorbells. I wasn’t too keen on it, but I’m much happier with this. It […]
