We had one when I was in high school, also gotten from the pound. One thing I might add about pound dogs of that age (having gotten my own dog from the pound as a 9-month old) is that you didn't get to teach him not to chew important stuff, so give him plenty of distracting stuff (toys, boxes, whatever.)
